Donald E. Brandenburg
Although Donald Brandenburg now resides in Independence, Ky., his roots are firmly planted in Estill County. Donald was born in Irvine on September 15, 1929 and is the son of Hargis and Kaye Moberly Brandenburg. He is married to Kay Moberly and together they have two children, Donna and Michael.
Growing up in Estill County Donald attended both Irvine and Ravenna grade schools and is a 1948 graduate of Irvine High School where he was Captain of the Irvine High Football Team both his junior and senior year. He continued his education at Eastern Kentucky University and has taken marketing courses at Scottsdale Convention Center, Harper Illinois College and Cornell University at Ithaca, New York.
Donald was very involved in the other side of education as well, teaching a short period of time at Cob Hill and Buck Creek One-Room Schools as well as teaching eighth grade and held the position of principal for 1 ½ years at Hargett Grade School.
Donald joined Philip Morris Tobacco Marketing in Middlesboro, Ky., as a salesman in 1953. During this time he served on the Middlesboro City Council and served one term on the Middleboro School Board.
During the next few years he saw himself promoted by Philip Morris to area manager in Jacksonville, Illinois and Division manager in Springfield, Illinois. In 1974, he was made section sales manager in Kansas City, Mo., where he supervised sales operations in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
In 1979, Donald was promoted to director of sales Mid-West USA which was headquartered in Schaumberg, Illinois with offices in Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis and Louisville.
After 32 years of service with Philip Morris he retired in June of 1985.
