Lily Mountain Nature Preserve

Picture
Lily Mountain Nature Preserve is located on Little Rock Road in Southwestern Estill County.  The property was purchased by the Estill County Conservation District (ECCD) in 2011 using grant funds from the Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund, a division of the Kentucky state government that derives funding from environmental fines and sales of nature-based license plates.  The property contains over 560 acres of woodlands and hiking trails, which will be preserved in their natural state for perpetuity.  Friends of Lily Mountain, Inc. was formed in October of 2010 initially to support the ECCD in activities leading to the purchase of the Lily Mountain property.  The future goals of the Friends of Lily Mountain are to provide the management and support of the Lily Mountain Nature Preserve in cooperation with the ECCD.  We hope to aid the ECCD in providing for a caretakers position for the property as well as possibly funding an education based scholarship with ties to the Lily Mountain Nature Preserve at some point in the future.  We will also work hand in hand with the Kentucky government and the KHLCFB in the management and maintenance of the Lily Mountain Nature Preserve to ensure the public can enjoy this pristine section of protected wilderness.  We will organize trail cleanups, advertise the approved uses of the property, and lead nature hikes on the property and other such environmentally acceptable activities.  To fund these activities we have secured commitments from members of the local community for in-kind donations for time and services.  We will also solicit grants from various sources that provide funding for environmentally based projects.  Friends of Lily Mountain, Inc. received its 501(c)3 status from the IRS in November of 2013.  All contributions are tax deductible to the extent the law allows.  Please consult your tax professional.
